Cheverly is a town in Maryland on the eastern outskirts of Washington, D.C. a few miles from the D.C. Beltway, Route 495. Cheverly lies just to the west of the point at which the Baltimore and Washington Parkway 295 meets route 50. In 1918, Robert Marshall founded Cheverly naming it for a subdivision called Cheverly Gardens that existed nearby. The land used to be home to the Anacostia Indians, then to tobacco plantations, and was eventually promoted by Robert Marshall as "Washington's Ideal Home Suburb."
